Data & AI Platform: Maximizing Value in a Unified Ecosystem
At a Global CIO case study session, Bauyrzhan Shaizhanov, Data Governance Expert and Data Platform Architect at Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), presented how the company replaced a landscape of fragmented data storage with a single unified data and AI platform.
The full case study in the IT Leaders Club Global CIO covers the platform's complete architecture and scale.
Here is a brief overview from the session.
A Single Platform, Not a Patchwork of Tools
ERG's IT division, Business & Technology Services, supports more than 60,000 users of IT products and services across nine large industrial enterprises. The company replaced its earlier landscape of separate storage systems with one data platform covering analytics, BI, AI and machine learning, which Shaizhanov said reduced complexity and let the company grow its data use without driving up costs. The platform is built so that a small core team can support around 20 self-service teams across the business.
Where AI Agents Do Real Work
Employees can check personal protective equipment issuance, stock and replacement dates through a chat assistant grounded entirely in enterprise data. Another agent builds HR survey dashboards straight from the data warehouse, replacing manual dashboard work. A third is built into a map of ERG's production facilities, answering questions by voice or keyboard and pulling production analytics based on data from the enterprise data warehouse.
The governance model behind these agents, including how they are given knowledge, prompts and functions so their answers stay grounded in real data rather than improvised, is in the full case study in the IT Leaders Club Global CIO.
AI Across the Data Lifecycle
At ERG, AI is not treated as a separate tool bolted onto the data platform. It is embedded across the data lifecycle, from generating metadata to building dashboards from natural language. Shaizhanov cited external industry research to size the potential effect, while noting that ERG's own results from the platform are still forming.
"Automation doesn't scare me. It's unstoppable, and I believe we need to keep learning everything new." — Bauyrzhan Shaizhanov
