The uniqueness of GIS Academy project lies in its ability to provide accessible expertise in the field of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data, closely follow sector developments, and offer users an interactive learning environment.
The project goes beyond offering technical content and articles by incorporating a user-friendly interface, dynamic and innovative content, and engaging interactive tools (e.g., the GIS Wordle game) to raise GIS awareness. Additionally, the platform encourages human-centered urban management, provides guidance to local governments, and offers decision-support mechanisms for the effective use of spatial data, distinguishing it from other platforms in the sector.
Furthermore, GIS Academy serves as a unique knowledge hub, offering comprehensive and multifaceted content that equips GIS enthusiasts with new perspectives and practical know-how, thereby creating a robust knowledge infrastructure.

- GIS Academy platform has been developed using Laravel, PHP, Bootstrap, jQuery, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Docker, Pipeline, MySQL, and Metronic Theme and Corporate Theme.
- Difficulty of implementation

GIS Academy was developed in-house by the GIS Directorate of IMM, with experienced GIS specialists involved in every phase, from content creation to technical infrastructure setup. Responsibilities were allocated according to each team member’s expertise, covering the preparation of technical articles, news content, projects, and interactive tools such as the GIS Woordle game. Effective coordination was ensured among teams responsible for web infrastructure, software development, content management, and graphic design.
Challenges occasionally arose in team planning, including workload distribution and content production scheduling. These challenges were addressed through a flexible working model and regular coordination meetings that strengthened internal communication. The sustainability of GIS Academy is ensured through the GIS Directorate’s expertise and institutional support.

The platform brings together GIS experts, academics, students, and spatial data enthusiasts, aiming to promote GIS awareness, which is increasingly important for human-centered urban management, while guiding local administrations and strengthening the GIS ecosystem. Rich in GIS content, the platform inspires and guides spatial data-related work, establishing itself as a leader in the sector. - GIS Academy was launched by the GIS Directorate of the IMM to promote the use of GIS and raise awareness in this field. It is accessible to everyone at https://cbsakademi.ibb.istanbul/. Over the past year, the platform has reached approximately 20,000 users, recorded 108,000 interactions, and achieved an average engagement time of 32 seconds.
