- Project Results
-
Implemented a resilient, integrated IT-OT cybersecurity ecosystem across Solar, Wind, and BESS operations. AI-enabled threat detection, 24×7 monitoring, and managed incident response enhanced threat visibility and response readiness. Dedicated IT and OT firewalls strengthened network segmentation and SCADA protection. Advanced email security, secure remote access, identity management, and endpoint controls improved protection across users, devices, and enterprise resources. Veeam and Acronis backup solutions strengthened data protection and recovery preparedness across enterprise IT, Microsoft 365, and SCADA systems. This defence-in-depth architecture established a scalable security foundation, strengthened cyber resilience, reduced exposure to evolving threats, and enhanced business continuity to support reliable and uninterrupted renewable energy operations.
The uniqueness of the project
The project’s uniqueness lies in establishing a comprehensive, resilient, AI-enabled IT-OT cybersecurity architecture for Solar, Wind, and BESS operations. It integrates Palo Alto SASE/GlobalProtect, Cortex XDR Pro, XSIAM with Managed SOC for 24×7 monitoring and response, Check Point Harmony Email Security, and dedicated Palo Alto IT and Fortinet OT firewalls. Veeam protects servers, email, OneDrive, and SharePoint, while Acronis safeguards SCADA systems. Microsoft Entra ID and Intune MDM enable identity-centric access control and endpoint governance, complemented by HPE Aruba switches and access points with Entra ID-based authentication. This integrated, defence-in-depth approach strengthens threat prevention, data security, IT-OT resilience, recovery readiness, and uninterrupted renewable energy operations.
- Used software
-
The project leverages an integrated ecosystem of next-generation cybersecurity, networking, identity management, and data protection technologies. Key solutions include Palo Alto Networks SASE/GlobalProtect, Cortex XDR Pro, XSIAM with Managed SOC, and Palo Alto IT firewalls; Fortinet OT firewalls; Check Point Harmony Email Security; Veeam Backup & Replication for servers, email, OneDrive, and SharePoint; and Acronis for SCADA/OT backups. Microsoft Entra ID provides identity and access management, complemented by Microsoft Intune for endpoint management and MDM. HPE Aruba switches and wireless access points enable secure network connectivity with Entra ID-based authentication. These technologies operate together to deliver layered security, 24×7 threat monitoring and response, secure remote access, data protection, backup and recovery, and resilient IT-OT operations across Solar, Wind, and BESS environments.
- Difficulty of implementation
-
Implementation complexity stemmed from securing 35+ plants/sites across 3 states - Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat, with headquarters in Gurugram and an office in Bengaluru. Protecting 1,000+ employees distributed across locations required consistent security policies, secure connectivity, and centralised monitoring. The diverse IT-OT ecosystem across Solar, Wind, and BESS environments introduced additional challenges due to varying technologies, infrastructure, and SCADA systems. Integrating multiple security platforms across users, endpoints, cloud, networks, servers, and critical OT assets required careful architecture, cross-functional coordination, and robust security controls. All implementations had to maintain operational continuity, protect business-critical data, and minimise disruption to renewable energy generation and storage operations.

Project Description
The project was initiated to establish a comprehensive, next-generation cybersecurity architecture for a renewable energy company operating across Solar, Wind, & Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). As part of the critical energy infrastructure ecosystem, the organisation required a robust, resilient, and integrated security framework to protect its IT infrastructure, OT/SCADA systems, users, cloud environments, identities, networks, & business-critical data against evolving cyber threats.
The initiative adopted a defence-in-depth approach, integrating advanced, AI-enabled security technologies to strengthen prevention, detection, response, recovery, & business continuity.
Key components of the project include:
1. Integrated IT-OT Security: Dedicated Palo Alto firewalls for IT and Fortinet firewalls for OT environments establish layered protection & support network segmentation, helping safeguard critical SCADA systems & operational infrastructure.
2. AI-Driven Threat Detection and Response: Palo Alto Cortex XDR Pro and XSIAM, supported by a Managed Security Operations Centre (SOC), enable 24×7 security monitoring, advanced threat analytics, incident investigation, and coordinated response to cyber threats.
3. Secure Remote Access: Palo Alto SASE with GlobalProtect provides secure connectivity for users accessing enterprise resources across distributed locations, supporting secure and flexible operations.
4. Enterprise Email Security: Check Point Harmony Email Security strengthens protection against phishing, malicious attachments, email-borne threats, and business email compromise.
5. Comprehensive Backup and Recovery: Veeam protects enterprise servers, email, OneDrive, and SharePoint data, while Acronis provides backup protection for OT/SCADA systems, supporting recovery preparedness across IT and operational environments.
6. Identity and Endpoint Security: Microsoft Entra ID and Intune MDM strengthen identity-based access control, device management, and security policy enforcement. HPE Aruba switches and wireless access points, integrated with Entra ID-based authentication, enhance secure network access across wired and wireless environments.
Business Impact and Outcomes
The project brings multiple security capabilities together into a unified security ecosystem rather than relying on isolated tools. It strengthens visibility across IT and OT, improves threat detection and response readiness, protects critical business and operational data, and enhances backup and recovery capabilities. The architecture is designed to reduce cyber risk, support operational resilience, and minimise the likelihood and impact of security-related disruptions.
By aligning modern cybersecurity practices with the operational needs of renewable energy generation and storage, the initiative establishes a scalable security foundation that supports reliable energy operations, business continuity, and the organisation's evolving digital transformation journey
- Project geography
-
The project spans a geographically distributed renewable energy network across India, covering 35+ plants/sites in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, and Gujarat. The corporate headquarters is located in Gurugram, Haryana, with an additional office in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The cybersecurity architecture provides integrated protection across these geographically dispersed locations, securing 1,000+ employees and diverse IT-OT environments supporting Solar, Wind, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Centralised security monitoring, secure remote connectivity, and standardised security controls enable consistent protection, visibility, and response across the organisation, irrespective of location. The scalable architecture supports geographically distributed operations while strengthening cybersecurity resilience, data protection, and business continuity across critical renewable energy infrastructure.
