Global CIO study “IT Leader 2023: tasks and goals”

The IT professional community Global CIO conducted its annual survey of IT leaders and thanks all community members who helped make this work possible.

This study is devoted to studying the key tasks that CIOs face from companies, and it also reflects the personal vision of CIO areas of responsibility.

The survey was conducted online with a sample of IT leaders in the Global CIO community. Respondents were surveyed randomly from the following industries: manufacturing, retail, financial sector, logistics, education and others.

The survey involved 100 respondents heading IT departments in companies.

The purpose of the study was to help IT leaders evaluate their current challenges and compare the situation with their peers.


First of all, the role and tasks facing the company’s IT leader from the point of view of management and the CIO himself were considered.

Company management sets the following tasks for the CIO:

  • Comprehensive digital transformation of the company (29.89%)
  • Digitalization of business processes and services (28.74%)
  • Support of current infrastructure (27.59%)
  • Cost reduction (10.34%)
  • Other (3.45%)

What should the CIO do, according to the CIO himself?

  • 37% – Automation and support of current performance in connection with business
  • 28% – Preservation and development of the team
  • 16% – Development of personal professional qualities
  • 14% – Formation and implementation of IT strategy
