- Year of project completion
- 2024
- Project timeline
- December, 2023 - June, 2024
- Project scope
- 10000 man-hours
- Goals
- The Project was aimed to meet the regulator compliance requirement and in parallel reduce the organization OPEX while not increasing the CAPEX on the project. It was also designed to meet the increasing compute requirement based on the forecasted capacity requirement.
- Project Results
-
- Regulatory compliance
- Growing OPEX bill
- Getting amortized model to not impact the CAPEX requirement for the hardware and managing it within budget with providing more better compute and storage for the application
- Consolidation of Datacenters from 4 to 2 sites.
- Better network latency and redundancy
- improved computing performance with state of the art HCI infrastructure.
The uniqueness of the project
- Successfully migrated complete workload without any major downtime.
- Reduced overall OPEX and increased capacity
- Consolidated workloads to 2 Datacenters (Primary and DR) previously it was 4 sites where 2 cloud provider sites were also there.
- Used software
- Sangfor HCI hardware and software, Colocation services of a local datacenter provider
- Difficulty of implementation
- Project was challenging especially due to diverse nature of applications and their migration limitation. Carefully planned the migration of services inline with a DR drill to have a minimal downtime actually needed for migration where within the limited time windows the compute was migrated to new hardware. Both perfomance and regulatory requirements were met where the overall OPEX bill was reduced and improved computing were made available for the Company's workload.
- Project Description
-
Migration of our data workload from a local cloud service provider to on-prem Hyperconverged Infrastructure (HCI). Complete project included:
- Analysis of our cloud workloads and capacity requirement forecasting and correlation with billing.
- Negotiating with vendor for a flexible payment plan to keep CAPEX low and OPEX inline with our cloud billing.
- Presenting the complete project proposal along with commercials viability and modular scalability of HCI to meet our future needs.
- Finalization of amortized model and overseeing technical implementation of the project.
- Project geography
- Project was coducted in Pakistan across 3 different cities where workloads were present.
