The uniqueness of the project
Kudremukh Iron Ore Company (KIOCL) lacked a single solution for building an effective workflow, solving economic, production, and logistical issues among its centers, while unreliable internet connection along with other obstacles hindered effective inter-center coordination.
The IT department of the company faced a necessity in creating a closed system to digitalize communications and interaction among employees throughout the plant, as well as conduct external online meetings with contractors and partners. Neither cloud-based video conferencing services nor hybrid ones were suitable for KIOCL due to security risks and the inability to be deployed inside the private circuit. Another requirement was the impossibility of data transferring to third-party servers.
After the research and testing, TrueConf Server showed full compliance with the requirements of the enterprise as the platform operates in the private corporate network without an Internet connection, eliminating any risks of unauthorized access to the video collaboration infrastructure.
- Used software
-
TrueConf Server, on-premises software platform for 4K UltraHD video conferencing, webinars, team messaging, and corporate collaboration, became a core of the corporate communication system.
TrueConf client applications for desktops and personal devices give the opportunity to contact colleagues at any time via video conferencing and in corporate messenger, use the address book with presence statuses and various collaboration tools for meeting recording, file sharing, slideshow, desktop sharing and remote control, as well as AI-powered features that enhance privacy and user experience.
As part of the project, the video communication system was integrated with a fleet of previously used hardware video conferencing endpoints, a corporate PBX, and Active Directory.
- Difficulty of implementation
-
As KIOCL deals with sensitive information, compliance with high security demands and protection against potential cyber threats was paramount. Deploying TrueConf Server on the company's infrastructure and providing its autonomous work inside a closed corporate network, as well as measures, such as data encryption, secure user authentication and access control, became essential to safeguard confidential communications and prevent unauthorized access to the system.
Compatibility issues, varying technical specifications, and interoperability challenges needed to be carefully addressed to ensure seamless integration and functionality across the entire ecosystem of hardware and video conferencing endpoints from different manufacturers.
It was crucial to establish a robust network infrastructure to support high-quality video conferencing and collaboration, ensuring seamless connectivity for remote employees, regardless of their location.
Necessity to adopt digital communication tools and replace face-to-face meetings with online ones was driven by the requirement to maintain operational efficiency irrespective of distancing or travel restrictions, aligning with KIOCL's growth strategy and evolving business needs.
- Project Description
-
Given the importance of the enterprise for the Indian economy, KIOCL required communication digitalization by the introduction of an independent solution for stable and uninterrupted video conferencing and asynchronous communications in the team messenger.
The specifics of the workflow determined building the first video conferencing infrastructure in the history of the company. Due to stringent requirements for the security of the implemented solution, the system should be deployed on the KIOCL’s premises, operate in a private corporate network, provide the company with full control over communications, as well as ensure independence from third-party factors.
Taking into account all the stated needs, KIOCL implemented TrueConf Server, an on-premises 4K video collaboration platform, that meets the requirements of the public sector enterprise for communication security and data protection. TrueConf Server operates on the secure proprietary protocol, and is not at risk of blocking by foreign IT companies and providers. The platform allows KIOCL to transfer their data only in the local network with no third-party access and ensures the independence of corporate communications.
Thanks to the integration of TrueConf Server with the internal IT services and PBX, KIOCL leverages its existing IT investments while enhancing collaboration across the enterprise.
The platform connects automated employee workstations, meeting rooms, and personal devices in a secure communication network. Employees engage in workshops, team meetings, and official events, share information, and coordinate projects with TrueConf self-hosted collaboration system. Powerful client applications are installed on their PC and mobiles, giving the opportunity to contact colleagues at any time.
The collaboration tools speed up decision-making, empower quicker response to emergency situations, as well as allow for making presentations and employee training. With a built-in corporate messenger, users can communicate in personal and group chats that are synchronized on all their devices. During video meetings and after them, participants use various collaboration tools that increase the interaction efficiency — address book, files, video, and audio sharing, slideshow, remote desktop control, conference recording, meeting scheduler, and much more.
Thanks to the AI technologies in TrueConf client applications (smart noise suppression, background blurring and replacing, centering the frame on the speaker, auto generation of the layout based on active speakers), it was possible to significantly reduce the burden on the company's IT department, increase employee privacy when participating in online meetings.
- Project geography
- Implementation of TrueConf Server allowed uniting a head office of the company in Bengaluru, a pelletisation plant in Mangaluru, and an iron ore mine in Kudremukh.
