- Project Results
-
1.Consistency and Unifying of Data
- Standardized Data: A unified EMR ensures consistent data across Riyadh First Health Cluster facilities, reducing discrepancies and providing accurate information.
- No Data Silos: A single system integrates patient records, ensuring all facilities access complete information for better continuity of care.
- Accurate Records: Consistent data entry minimizes duplicates and conflicts, reducing errors in diagnosis and treatment
2. Streamlined Administrative Processes
- Faster Patient Registration and Scheduling: A unified EMR system reduces administrative workload by centralizing patient data, making processes like patient registration, scheduling, and billing more efficient.
- Cost Savings: With a streamlined and efficient system, administrative and operational costs can be reduced. This also minimizes paperwork and storage space requirements.
3. Enhanced Data Analytics and Reporting- Real-Time Reporting: Unified EMRs provide real-time data for informed decision-making, monitoring healthcare quality, and evaluating performance.
- Better Resource Allocation: Analyzing data across facilities enables informed decisions on staffing and resource distribution based on patient needs.
- Improved Public Health Monitoring: A unified system effectively tracks disease patterns and trends, aiding in early outbreak detection and targeted interventions.

The uniqueness of the project
The implementation of the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system serves as a vital foundation for enhancing the quality and grade of healthcare services. It aims to cover the entire patient journey, encompassing both clinical and administrative aspects, with the ultimate goal of achieving the desired outcomes for Riyadh First Health Cluster and promoting health transformation across Saudi Arabia.
The entire process is paperless, so all workflows were automated.
- Used software
- The Electronic Medical Record (EMR) has been integrated with various laboratory devices and medical systems in each hospital of Riyadh First Health Clauster (it consist of 8 hospital) to facilitate the seamless exchange of patient health information and the sharing of health data. Additionally, the system is connected to key national platforms, supporting the development of a comprehensive, mature, and sustainable digital infrastructure for managing health transactions.
- Difficulty of implementation
-
- Variations in clinical practices across hospitals
- Inconsistent workflows among facilities
- Differing patient experiences at each hospital
- Uneven levels of care quality
- Operational efficiency varies across sites
- Limited access to shared patient information
- Difficulty in transferring patients within the cluster
- Challenges in generating data and performing analytics
- Project Description
-
Digital Transformation & Technology provides its digital services to all employees of the Riyadh First Health Cluster and all beneficiaries at its facilities, which include 165 primary care centers and a medical city, and 18 general and specialized hospitals with a total bed capacity of 4,000 beds. The team has successfully led the development and implementation of the Unified Electronic Medical Record (Watheeq), an initiative aims to standardize patients' health records across the facilities of Riyadh First Health Cluster through the Health Information System (Watheeq) for hospitals and (Raqeem) for primary healthcare centers. With successful activation of Watheeq system across 18 hospitals and the launch of Patient and Physician mobile apps, the initiative has strengthened collaboration, enabled seamless data exchange via national and medical system integrations, and set a new standard for sustainable digital healthcare delivery. Objectives of the Watheeq System Implementation:1. Improve Healthcare Quality2. Unify Medical Records3. Accelerate Clinical Processes Through Digitalization4. Strengthen Data Confidentiality and Integrity5. Standardize Clinical and Administrative Workflows across R1 Facilities.6. Optimize Resource Utilization7. Enable Data-Driven Decision Making
