Goals

ONYX Hospitality Group is recognized as one of the fastest-growing hospitality organizations in the Asia Pacific region. From its beginnings with a single hotel in Thailand, the Group has expanded to operate over 50 hotels across eight countries under the Amari, OZO, Shama, and Oriental Residence brands. In support of our rapid growth and portfolio expansion throughout Southeast Asia, we identified the need to enhance the flexibility and scalability of our core business applications, including our Property Management System and Point-of-Sales System, which are critical to hotel operations.

Centralized management and control, alongside standardization of policies and procedures from our corporate office, are achieved through secure integration across all third-party systems within our ecosystem and the broader hospitality technology landscape. To address these requirements, we have partnered with Oracle to implement the Oracle Cloud Hospitality Solution, comprising Opera Cloud for property management and Symphony POS for point-of-sales operations.

Project Results

As a result of the Apollo project, most hotels within ONYX Hospitality Group are now successfully migrating and running PMS and POS systems on the cloud. Cloud PMS and POS are now standard solution when opening the new hotel in any counties includes China.

This transformation has significantly enhanced the ONYX Hospitality Group's operational efficiency by centralizing data management, allowing for real-time access and analytics across properties. The cloud-based architecture has also provided greater flexibility and scalability, empowering ONYX Hospitality Group to expand our portfolio with ease and adapt quickly to new market opportunities. Additionally, centralized management and control have streamlined processes, improved consistency in service delivery, and strengthened the ability to monitor and optimize performance across all hotels.

The uniqueness of the project

ONYX Hospitality Group is in the group of early adopters in APAC to start work with Oracle and their partner on the migration project since 2024.

Difficulty of implementation

The implementation of the Apollo project within ONYX Hospitality Group was marked by significant complexity, particularly in integrating PMS and POS systems across a diverse portfolio of hotel properties. Hotels that had relied on on-premised systems for many years posed unique challenges, as migrating to cloud-based solutions required overcoming entrenched infrastructure, legacy software dependencies, and long-established operational habits. The transition demanded careful mapping of existing processes, extensive customization to ensure compatibility, and comprehensive training to facilitate organizational change. Technical obstacles such as data migration, system interoperability, and the need for minimal disruption during the switchover added further layers of difficulty, making the project highly demanding in terms of planning, expertise, and collaboration.

Following cloud migration, it is essential to review integration with the core application due to changes in infrastructure and updated secure integration protocols. This ensures uninterrupted operations, which is especially critical for the hospitality industry that functions 24/7.
Project Description

Project description

We establish the cloud strategy, define appropriate solutions, and assemble a committee to thoroughly evaluate and finalize these solutions. Recognizing the vital role of PMS and POS systems in hotel operations, we collaborate closely with our partners to meticulously plan the phases of implementation and manage organizational change. Workshops and proof-of-concept sessions are conducted to proactively address potential issues prior to production migration at each property.

- Assessment and Planning

- Security Refinement

- Policy and Procedure Development

- Integration Development

- Structure Building

- Simulation and Training

- Proof of Concept & Workshops

Upon completion of the above steps, rollout planning is initiated, prioritizing less complex implementations and integrations—such as those required for new small hotel openings with minimal integration and migration needs. To date, the migration framework has been established as a robust platform for deployment across all hotels in the region.
