Google has come up with a few very interesting news in the market in May. It introduced a conversational search experience powered by Gemini 2.5 Pro, featuring AI-generated summaries and dynamic content. It also announced live multimodal capabilities, enabling real-time interactions using text, video, and audio inputs and unveiled a new video generation model capable of producing realistic visuals with audio and dialogue.
Google DeepMind's AlphaEvolve initiated a Gemini-powered coding agent designed for advanced algorithm development and presented Project Mariner, an AI agent designed to automate web-based tasks such as online shopping and form-filling. The agent operates as a Chrome extension, interpreting complex goals and navigating websites to enhance user productivity.
Microsoft has held its major development conference, Microsoft Build 2025 where the corporation highlighted advancements in AI agents, including autonomous coding assistants and integration of Grok 3 into Azure AI Foundry. Another announcement covered the largest GB200-based supercomputer hosted on Azure. The company also said it was developing an AI "agent factory" to create autonomous AI agents for various applications, including coding assistants and customer service bots. This initiative is part of Microsoft's broader strategy to integrate AI across its product offerings.
OpenAI Acquired AI hardware startup io for $6.5 billion, aiming to develop new AI-powered hardware products and in cooperation with SoftBank and Oracle announced the Stargate Project, a $500 billion initiative to build AI infrastructure, including data centers in the U.S., UAE, and Japan. The project aims to support the development and deployment of advanced AI models and applications globally. For example, Stargate UAE is said to be a massive AI data center in Abu Dhabi. The facility will feature a 1-gigawatt AI computing cluster, with 200 megawatts expected to be operational within a year. This will mark the first Stargate project outside the U.S.
A consortium comprising SAP, Deutsche Telekom, Ionos, and Schwarz Group is planning to construct a significant AI data processing center in Germany. This initiative aims to secure a portion of the EU's €20 billion funding for establishing AI "gigafactories" to bolster Europe's AI capabilities and reduce reliance on external technologies.
Salesforce announced its largest acquisition since 2021, purchasing data management firm Informatica for approximately $8 billion. This move aims to enhance Salesforce's AI capabilities, particularly in automating tasks through its Agentforce platform. The acquisition is expected to bolster Salesforce’s data management tools, crucial for its AI-driven strategies.
Snowflake has been named the official data collaboration provider for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games in Los Angeles. The partnership will centralize data across various Olympic functions, including athlete training and fan engagement, enabling Team USA to optimize performance and deliver personalized experiences.
Alteryx unveiled a new enterprise analytics platform designed to unify data workflows and accelerate AI initiatives. The platform aims to empower analysts by providing streamlined access to data and enhanced AI orchestration capabilities.
Cloudera introduced a new AI-driven data visualization tool aimed at democratizing insights across the data lifecycle. The tool facilitates seamless communication and collaboration among data engineers, analysts, and scientists without compromising data security. Anthropic released two new amodels, Claude Opus 4 and Claude Sonnet 4, capable of functioning autonomously for extended periods. While Chinese DeepSeek, which caused shockwaves across markets this year, quietly released an upgraded version of its artificial intelligence reasoning model. The company did not make an official announcement, but the upgrade of DeepSeek R1 was released on AI model repository Hugging Face.
