How AI is being implemented in the education sector of Kazakhstan

On the instructions of the head of state, artificial intelligence schools are operating on the premises of three Kazakhstani universities.

The School of Artificial Intelligence of the Seoul National University of Science and Technology has been opened at the Korkyt-Ata Kyzylorda University. A branch of the City University of Hong Kong has been established at the Kanysh Satpayev Kazakh National Research Technical University. The International Research Center for  AI and the Center for Smart Transport Management Technologies have been opened at the D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University on the basis of the Lu Ban Workshop . The relevant courses from international technology giants Google, NVIDIA, Huawei, Coursera and others have been introduced in domestic universities. Memorandums have been signed with Coursera, Google, Nvidia, Huawei Technologies Kazakhstan LLP, 01 Edu System, Binance Kazakhstan, Kazpravda.kz reports .

Full-scale courses for training university teachers in AI areas have been launched at the Astana Hub technopark, covering 700 teachers from 47 universities in Kazakhstan. In the field of artificial intelligence, the Interuniversity AI Standard has been adopted, and universities have developed 20 new educational programs on AI.

The Ministry of Science and Higher Education also noted that the training of the KazLLM language model based on 148 billion tokens in Kazakh, English, and Russian has been completed. The model was developed with the participation of the team from Nazarbayev University, Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, the Shaisultan Shayakhmetov National Scientific and Practical Center "Til-Kazyna" and others. 117 experts were involved in the development, including more than 40 candidates of science, PhDs, and masters of research institutes and universities.

The ministry presented the head of state with a pilot program, AI-Sana, aimed at comprehensive development of AI skills among students of all levels in priority specialties. 100,000 students will be trained in artificial intelligence, programming, and startup acceleration.
