Microsoft acquired data processing platform Osmos.
Microsoft has acquired Osmos, a data processing platform powered by artificial intelligence. Osmos' technologies will become part of Agentic AI within Microsoft Fabric. The goal is to automate workflows and transform raw data into ready-to-use AI assets within the OneLake ecosystem.
Osmos initially specialized in automating the loading and processing of external data—for example, when exchanging information between clients and suppliers. The platform enabled faster and more accurate data processing processes thanks to machine learning, software synthesis, and optimization algorithms. Later, Osmos developers began using large language models to transition to a model where AI doesn't simply assist workflows, but independently manages them, with subsequent human review.
Osmos' Agentic AI enables autonomous data loading and integration from multiple sources, supports changing data schemas, and includes built-in security mechanisms. This architecture allows humans to correct errors without disrupting automation, maintaining a high level of reliability and control.
Following the acquisition, the Osmos team joined Microsoft's Fabric division, led by Azure Data Analytics VP Bogdan Krivat.
Osmos noted that Microsoft's choice stems from a shared vision for the future of the industry: AI should become a central element of data management. Microsoft plans to publish integration details and update plans on the official Microsoft Fabric blog.
