Cyberattacks could become one of the main threats to Armenia's infrastructure in 2026

Digital security is becoming a key factor in national resilience, and risks in this area for Armenia could increase significantly in 2026. This warning was issued by the Foreign Intelligence Service of the Republic of Armenia, which published a forecast of external threats for the coming year.

The report "On the Risks to the External Security of the Republic of Armenia" states that attacks on critical systems can be carried out by both state structures and non-state groups involved in hybrid forms of pressure on the country.

Experts estimate that malicious cyber operations could lead to infrastructure management failures, loss of control over individual digital systems, and disruptions in the provision of vital services to the public.

The document notes that high-risk areas include financial and banking institutions, communications networks, digital platforms of government agencies, and information resources related to electoral processes, including the databases of the Central Electoral Commission and territorial commissions.

The energy sector is receiving special attention. Digital power distribution control systems are also considered potential targets for cyberattacks, with disruptions potentially having serious socioeconomic consequences.

The SVR emphasizes that the growth of digital risks requires strengthened cybersecurity measures and closer coordination between government agencies and critical infrastructure operators.
