Ireland's Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (CRU) has proposed a new way to deal with a likely winter energy crisis.

In her opinion, it is worth asking large consumers of electricity in the country to use backup diesel generators in case of problems with the main power supply next winter. It is known that data center operators Equinix and Digital Realty Trust have already begun to create increased reserves of fuel for standby generators in their European data centers.
It is argued that concerns about Irish energy security arose in connection with the events in Ukraine, therefore it is critical that the authorities, the energy sector and large energy consumers coordinate closely to ensure energy security both in winter and in other seasons.
